Hashtag Generation

#Caught in the Web

‘Caught in the Web – Towards a safer cyberspace for women and girls’ is an ongoing initiative since August 2021 to combat various forms of online threats against women and girls. It is funded by the British High Commission of Sri Lanka and is managed and facilitated through a consortium of CSOs namely Search for Common Ground (SFCG), Center for Equality & Justice (CEJ) and Hashtag Generation, working in the field of gender, hate speech, and technology.

The consortium members have been identified based on their expertise to help tackle gendered online hate speech. Hashtag Generation’s key area of focus in the initiative is to conduct real-time monitoring of cyber sexual and gender-based violence and gendered hate speech online during the inception phase. The monitoring work undertaken will be based on a comprehensive framework that will be developed pursuant to the input from the consortium and key partners, which will create processes to effectively identify, catalogue and archive the spread of gendered harm on social media by means of social listening tools that are carefully selected.
