About Us:
Hashtag Generation is an antiracist, feminist movement led and run by a group of young tech-savvy Sri Lankans working towards building a society where everyone has the skills, information, and tools to be active participants in making the decisions that affect their communities, technologies, and bodies. The group adopts a non-partisan approach and works with the strong conviction that decision-making at all levels should remain transparent and radically inclusive to build lasting peace and sustainability in Sri Lanka.
Our work consists of initiatives such as advocating for youth participation in decision-making, strengthening women’s civic and political engagement, advocating for the rights of ethnic, religious, and sexual minorities, and raising awareness on the importance of cybersecurity, countering misinformation, and addressing online hate speech.
Role Overview:
The Director – Strategy and Operations will serve under the guidance of the Board of Directors and will be pivotal in developing and executing strategic initiatives to further our organization’s mission. This role involves leading efforts to enhance our impact through strategic planning, program development, operational management, and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning and Leadership:
- Develop and implement comprehensive strategic plans to advance the organization’s mission and objectives.
- Lead the formulation of long-term strategies, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and priorities.
- Program Development and Management:
- Oversee the design and implementation of high-impact programs addressing key issues related to human rights, digital media, gender equality, and platform accountability.
- Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, making data-driven adjustments to enhance outcomes.
- Operational Management:
- Ensure the efficient day-to-day operations of the organization by streamlining internal processes and systems.
- Work closely with various departments to drive cohesive and integrated operations aligned with strategic goals.
- Oversee resource allocation, including budgeting, staffing, and operational planning.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships:
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships with donors, partners, and other key stakeholders.
- Represent the organization in various forums, advocating for key issues and influencing policy changes.
- Organizational Development:
- Lead efforts to strengthen organizational capacity through strategic and operational initiatives.
- Provide strategic guidance and support to other departments to ensure integrated operations and program delivery.
- Reporting and Accountability:
- Monitor and report on the progress of strategic and operational initiatives, providing regular updates to the Board of Directors.
- Maintain accountability for achieving both strategic and operational goals and objectives.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience: Minimum of 4 years of experience in strategic planning, program management, operational management, and stakeholder engagement in the development sector, with a focus on human rights, gender equality, digital media, and democracy.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in law, management, social sciences, or a related field.
- Expertise: Strong understanding of social media, human rights, and social issues.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in Tamil or Sinhala, along with English.

- Leadership: Proven leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Decision-Making: Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
- Collaboration: Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Organization: Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities, with a keen eye for detail.
