Hashtag Generation, a dynamic non-profit organization based in Colombo, is seeking a dedicated Social Media Analyst to support our efforts in the upcoming elections and in researching and analyzing harmful online speech.
Position Overview:
As a Social Media Analyst, you will play a crucial role in monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on social media content and campaign finance practices related to the elections. You will work closely with our team, tracking harmful speech, identifying election law violations, and monitoring campaign finance activity to provide insights supporting our digital rights and civic education work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Social Media Monitoring: Track election-related content on social media platforms, focusing on harmful speech and potential election law violations.
- Campaign Finance Monitoring: Monitor online activity related to campaign finance practices, identifying potential issues of non-compliance and transparency concerns.
- Analysis & Reporting: Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis on collected data, providing insights on trends, compliance, and potential impacts on civic engagement.
- Data Collection & Organization: Collect, organize, and document relevant data to facilitate analysis and ensure accuracy in reporting.
- Real-Time Updates: Provide real-time updates on social media trends and campaign finance activity during the election period.
- Collaboration: Work closely with a team of analysts and project leads to support broader programme goals related to civic education and democratic engagement.
Essential Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience, preferably in a non-governmental organization or a media institution.
- Education: Current degree holder in Political Science, Law, Public Policy, International Relations, or related fields.
- Analytical Skills: Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize data and provide clear insights.
- Attention to Detail: Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage large datasets and ensure accuracy.
- Communication Skills: Proficient in written and spoken English; fluency in Sinhala and/or Tamil is an advantage.
- Interest in Civic Engagement: A strong interest in Sri Lankan politics, social media, and civic engagement.
